Well, last week, the Cheektowaga Varsity baseball team opened their season at home against Springville. And they opened it in grand fashion. Senior Jon Klein led the team to a 3-0 win, pitching a complete game, striking out thirteen and only allowing two hits. Capping off the night were some big hits from both Klein and senior Frank Mancuso, both leading to the winning runs.

Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day o Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence face by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people and their allies in schools. My deliberate silence echos that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence?

Well, baseball has finally arrived and the snow is melting, hopefully for good. As the sun starts to peak, we are pointed in the right direction. Not just towards spring, but also the time of year that baseball, the game, players and fans cherish. Those palm trees, that Florida sun and that green grass calls us back to that love that burns within our hearts all winter long.
