Dare to Spare
Every year, Cheektowaga Central High holds a faculty-student bowling competition at Thruway Lanes on Walden. This year, the event took place on Martin Luther King Day. This year’s teams consisted of four people – three students and one teacher. Money that was raised for this competition required each member involved to bring in two rolls of pennies, all of which went towards the Justin Bieber contest run by a local radio station. Faculty and students filled the bowling alley as they got their teams together, some of whom showed off their spirit by making team shirts for everybody to wear. Once the competition started, all you could hear was the sound of pins being knocked down as people cheered their teammates on, hoping to get that chance to come on top.
At the end of the tournament, the results were in. Coming in first place was team “Smells Like Fish” including: Mr. Fish, Senior Spencer Lajoy and sophomores Angelina and Anniella Cswaykus. ”It was great to come in first place, especially because we beat Mr. Carol’s team,” explained Lajoy.
Coming in second place were “The Pinheads” including: Mr. Hickson, seniors Ryan Carr and Ben Dziekan, and junior Caitlin Kerling. “I had a lot of fun getting together with people from school and being a part of this tournament. It was a great experience coming in second place, even though I can’t bowl,” stated Ben Dziekan, whose team showed up at the allies in a rocker’s theme.
“Team Sexy” showed they could pull it off by coming in third place, which included Mr. Scotnicki, juniors Tyler Welsh, Hannah Field, and Andrew Wiatrowski. “Bowling strikes are easy, beating Team Sexy is not,” stated Tyler Welsh.
In the end, the bowling tournament turned out to be a great success, thanks to the students and teachers that participated in the event.
