Making Change for Change

9 March 2010 No Comment

Leukemia. One of the deadliest killers of all time , is still causing corruption . Its most recent known is a young student at Cheektowaga Central named Matt. Through these problems , the school had started a breakthrough known as the Penny War. This idea was originally started for the Roswell Cancer Institute and Junior Leukemia Society.

Matt  is currently a freshman at Cheektowaga Central and is as well , a baseball player. Although sadly through these circumstances , baseball is not a likely thing to happen. Leukemia is a disease that strikes both males and females. The statistics luckily have jumped three times over the past thirty years.  11.4 percent of all people under the age of twenty , are diagnosed with Leukemia , making that over three thousand people.

Mr. Orgek, the freshman Math teacher at Cheektowaga Central High school started the Penny War.  Mr. Pane runs the Penny War right now.  His father had Leukemia, so he is all too familiar with the disease.   Luckily , with the help of the Roswell Cancer Institute , his father had successfully made it through.
“It’s an honor to help out Matt and other families who go through this situation” said Mr. Pane. “As much money towards cancer and Leukemia is very important.  Mr. Orgek wanted to get kids involved in the society, giving  the kids more of a chance to stand out and learn more about responsibility.”

People like Matt are struggling to get over these situations , and are noticed for their troubles. The students and staff at Cheektowaga Central , are working to be rid of these unfortunate problems and help everybody succeed in the war against disease.
