Football – It Hurts

There are a lot of things that take place on a football field that people don’t know about. Most people don’t know what it feels like to be a Football player. Some may think it’s all about throwing a ball for a touchdown., but really it’s not about that at all.

The Cheektowaga Central Varsity Football team recently achieved one of the short term goals they had planned. Well, one goal was to take each game week by week, or block by block. As a part of the team, I can say that we are on block 5, or 5-0. With a win this Friday we can win the division. You can’t just show up on Friday and win though, it takes a lot of practice.

To prepare for this season we have been learning the game of football since the end of last school year. The team had a long June camp, and in school everyone could spot the football players, because of the huge bruises on their arms. There is a saying about the pain of the sport. A player has to choose if they are really injured, or just hurt, and it hurts to be a football player. From the first day to the last, most are in some sort of discomfort. There are so many ways to get hurt, it just happens all the time.

Rolled ankles, broken fingers, bruises, cuts, headaches, and the sun in your eyes are all somethings that may hurt, but in a lot of cases are part of a football player’s life. Most play for the love of the game, and if you don’t love football, I don’t know how you can even like it. Personally, I love the sport, and it’s a big part of my life. The game is very competitive, so you have to be ready for anything at all times.

In the past week, we won our fifth game, bringing us to  5-0. Before a game, a lot of people forget about the hurt, and just plan on hurting the other team. Not actually hurting them with cheap shots, but with a mutual respect, because they have done a lot of work too. Mostly in gootball games, it’s a huge bonus to take away the other teams confidence, if that happens it makes it a lot easier to win.

If you manage to win. If you walk off the field with cuts, bruises, maybe a little dizzy and you have a feeling in your heart. A feeling thats says you just won and you need to rest, or a feeling thats says you just lost and you need to just think about where you went wrong.

I don’t want to think about losing, so i would like to win the division, it’s the next block. I didn’t even talk about a quarter of the hard work, an ounce of the sweat or any of the heart it takes. But if you bring your heart, and you win, you just might forget about the pain, because it hurts to be a Football Player.
